What is my design approach?
The Problem / Why?
• what is the problem (business needs) through the lens of the client?
• what is the problem (users’ needs) through the lens of users?
Design Process / How?
• how do we measure success of this project? what are some phase-specific short-term and long term goals?
• what are the outcomes and implications of phase design / research / prototype?
Final Outcomes / What?
• what is the final design? what are the limitations and strengths of this final prototype?
• what would I have done differently?
Why this design approach?
Simon Sinek’s Golden Circle - why. how. what. is an excellent framework in telling a compelling narrative. I begin by identifying users’ and businesses needs; then proceed to designing, researching and prototyping to reach short-term and long-term goals; and finally, developing a prototype with its limitations and strengths well-documented before passing onto a different team for further iterations. This is a reflective approach that constantly reminds me to question ‘why this decision,’ ‘why this kind of limitation’, and most importantly, ‘why I am an Interaction Designer.’
